Waka Stern Trophy Award

Taurapa

Waka Stern Trophy Award

$98

LeadershipAuthority

The taurapa is the carved stern of a waka — the highest, most visible point, and traditionally the most ornately carved. To stand at the stern is to set the direction. As an award, it's the clearest possible statement about leadership: the person who has guided the team, the project, or the organisation forward.

More about this trophy

The trophy depicts the taurapa (stern piece) of a traditional Māori waka (canoe) and honours recipients with a symbol of authority, balance and leadership — the ability to steer others toward success.

It features intricate spiral designs known as pitau or takarangi, representing the flow of knowledge and experience through time. Inlaid pāua shell elements, with two ribs, symbolically represent ira-atua (the gods) and ira-tangata (humans) — the connection between the spiritual and human worlds. Available in three sizes: 170 mm, 210 mm and 265 mm. The large 265 mm size is $182 (GST inclusive) — mention your preferred size in your enquiry.
